Introduction:
I've watched a great movie "Forever Young" tonight from Amazon Prime. It was a profound story with an emotional song titled "Can I Get High on You." The story gave me a lot to think about, and I found myself reflecting on the technological advancements in our current lives.
Technological Advancements vs. Organic Self:
In "Forever Young," a senior woman undergoes a scientific procedure to revert her age back to her 30s while her husband remains in his senior years. This premise raises fascinating questions about our relationship with aging and the desire to turn back time. Today, we live in an era where technology allows us to alter our appearances significantly, from plastic surgery to advanced anti-aging treatments. But what if one day, a simple drop could make our skin—and perhaps our entire body—youthful again?
While these possibilities are exciting, they also present complex social and ethical dilemmas. How would society change if age reversal became commonplace? Would our relationships and commitments withstand such transformations? These questions push us to consider whether we should accept these changes or remain true to our organic selves.
The Inviolability of the Soul:
Despite the advancements in technology, there's an essential aspect of ourselves that remains unchanged—our soul or spirit. While technology can modify our physical appearance, it cannot alter the essence of who we are. When God creates us, He also endows us with the power to renew our spirit. Our spiritual life, not our physical body, keeps our soul young and vibrant.
Ethical and Moral Considerations:
The potential for reversing aging or drastically altering appearances raises several ethical questions. How would this impact our relationships? Would there be increased pressure to look young, affecting our self-esteem and mental health? Furthermore, issues of inequality could arise if such treatments are accessible only to a privileged few.
Navigating these changes responsibly involves balancing technological progress with maintaining our core values. It's crucial to ensure that advancements serve humanity positively without compromising our ethical standards.
Spiritual Renewal:
Our spirit and inner growth are vital in keeping us youthful at heart. Spiritual practices and beliefs from various traditions emphasize the renewal and rejuvenation of the spirit, regardless of physical age. Living by the spirit, rather than the body, brings a sense of peace and fulfillment that transcends physical appearances.
Personal Reflection and Vision:
As I reflect on "Forever Young" and our technological future, I envision a world where technology and spirituality coexist harmoniously. A future where we can embrace advancements while remaining true to our inner selves. This balance ensures that while we may change outwardly, our soul remains our guiding light.
Conclusion:
"Forever Young" has inspired me to ponder the possibilities and challenges of our rapidly advancing world. While we may face new ethical dilemmas, our spiritual life and connection to a higher power will keep our souls young. Recently, I have been practicing fasting and prayer daily. It makes me feel so youthful and energetic, and I can feel my soul deeply connected to God. This is something that technology or AI will never replicate—our human nature and humanity. Creating a harmonious society is our human responsibility. Let's approach the future with an open mind, ensuring that our technological progress enhances rather than diminishes the essence of who we are.
Reflections on 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV): "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day."
